Affiliate Member Application

Affiliates are schools or educational programs not meeting all the criteria for full accreditation.

Eligible Programs Must:

Adhere to NWAIS criteria of non-discrimination

Uphold the core values of the association

Meet and adhere to all other applicable requirements for all categories of affiliation or membership.

Complete an annual update report to support member engagement and to notify the association of any substantive changes.

Affiliation (non-voting) is available for:

Newly founded (five years or less) schools that, when ready, may apply for Subscriber School status

Stand-alone early childhood (birth-3 years, pre-school, pre-K/K) programs

Independent early childhood, elementary, or secondary schools located outside the association’s region domestically or internationally

Non-profit educational programs/organizations that are specialized and may not graduate students or grant degrees

Accredited for-profit elementary or secondary schools

Online or remote schools that operate without a physical campus

NWAIS has four Core Values that all schools within its network share.
Diverse, Equitable and Inclusive CommunitiesIndependent schools are obligated to grow as equitable communities. NWAIS prompts schools to think of diversity beyond mere representation and inclusion. Our policies and standards thus require member schools to aspire for cultures of true belonging, where each individual is valued for their own identity and contributions. How these individuals come together in community is vital for institutional and societal progress.

The association views ongoing professional development as necessary for progress, and, accordingly, offers members a rich program of workshops and conferences each year. The Transformative Power of LeadershipNWAIS actively promotes the strengthening of current school leadership and the development of future school leadership based on the conviction that good schools can become great schools when guided by skilled, ethical, and visionary leaders. Furthermore, the association believes that, with coaching and training, good leaders can become great, and great leaders can become transformative, manifesting a compelling vision for their school that engages and inspires the entire community. Positive Impact of Independent School EducationWe believe in the value of education provided by all school-types (public, for-profit, and non-profit) within our network. How does your school share the value of the Positive Impact of Independent School Education as defined by NWAIS? The association champions the unique experience and distinctive culture that every independent school offers as fundamental to student and school success. NWAIS provides practical support to its member schools as they strive to unleash student potential through exceptional teaching and extraordinary learning opportunities. The association advances independent school education by encouraging schools, in ways appropriate to their missions, to experiment and innovate in program and pedagogy so their students can become life-long learners, and successful citizens contributing to the common good.
